Abstract

Functional dyspepsia and gastroparesis are part of the spectrum of gastroduodenal sensory-motor disorders, with functional dyspepsia at the milder end and refractory gastroparesis at the severe end. Both share symptoms, pathophysiological mechanisms, and risk factors, with the rate of gastric emptying being the current distinguishing factor. Treatment focuses on improving symptoms and quality of life, since there is no correlation between symptoms and gastric emptying.

Keywords: Dyspepsia. Functional dyspepsia. Gastroparesis. Gastric emptying.
